SHARING MY STORY IS OK
We often come down on people for spreading negative things. What we fail to realize is, if we are going to force someone to post only positivity, unfriend or unfollow them for such things, we are then showing them in their time of need or healing or darkness that we don't care.
People try to silence those who come forward on many things because they don't want to read about it. We should be celebrating them every day for overcoming such huge obstacles in their lives. We don't shame alcoholics for reaching milestones. We don't block drug addicts for staying clean. We celebrate them. The same should go for those who have endured and survived abuse.
Share MY story is OK
If I wait until no one is affected or uncomfortable, my story may never be told. No matter what, someone will not like it, and that's ok.
Putting into words what I have experienced creates a foundation for the healing process. Therapists see this on a daily.
Telling my story keeps it from being forgotten. It brings to light how ABNORMAL my NORMAL was.
It breaks the power that shame has and lets others know that they are not alone.
Breaking the silence exposes secrets. Silence is enforced when you are dealing with abuse. Silence is toxic. Silence adds to the pain. Abuse cannot thrive in exposure.
Sharing my story validates others and gives them the courage to come forward. It breaks the hold that the abuser has, as well as, brings survivors out of isolation.
Stopping the silence brings awareness, exposes a problem, and breaks denial.
When we sit in silence we protect our abuser. We protect his misuse of power. We validate his behavior.
Getting out isn't easy, but it is possible. Keep the faith and know that there is light at the end. Don't let anyone keep you from sharing your story.
